your theory intrigues me, i think you're on to something here...

also the song is effing amazing, the somewhat grating vocal sound effects can be forgiven by the cool production and the typical quarl basslines. the chiptune effects here and there sound really cool as well, i always like some chiptune influences in the music i listen to. it is a bit of a shame that the song is short, i would have loved to hear a second drop

Quarl responds:

Lol, they're just intrusive golden ratio sex cult thoughts. I'm onto absolutely nothing, stay in school and don't do drugs. I stayed in school as long as I could but it was the drugs that got me D':

Thank you for the review acheney. I'll maybe make this one longer for an EP re-release? I kind of love disappointing people with really short tracks. Maybe it's a disappointment kink? Ew, gross, that would explain so much about my life D:<

damn, these textures (especially at 2:50)! the main melody and supporting chords are very nice as well, they almost seem uplifting, in a drugged way. the bagpipe synth that appears at around 3:50 was unexpected and actually really cool!

this being paired with "pitch" makes me picture hearing a ballgame organ while on acid

cool stuff!

Jojo responds:

You heard the leit motif! Aaaaa! Nice!

Thank you!!

the mix is a little too distorted for my taste (at least on these ath-m50x's of mine) and maybe the bass flow is a little too chaotic? but there are cool moments, like the moment of hardcore sustained bass at 2:36. also the treble sounds good, though maybe too spiky in certain parts, like during the zappy effects at 0:26 and during a good portion of the drops

man i'd love to be on the level of sound design and layering you're on

i'm loving that triple meter! and also the little details, like the reverb swells on the vocals and the short samples in the transitions

Quarl responds:

Thank you so much acheney :D

beautiful! sublime! the song reminds me of cacola's "an interstellar game of connect the dots"

the progression of the song makes perfect sense for being so long, and the choice of using f sharp minor really is the icing on the cake

Synami responds:

Thank you! I was originally intending for this to be an hour or so long, but maybe I'll do that at a later point in time. :P

i'm glad you're happy about being 18 :) i remember being fairly unhappy when i turned that age

cool calm beat btw! the mixing sounds really good as usual

the snare sounds a bit buried in the mix, and the sound design of the basses can be a bit iffy at certain points. not that they're bad, i personally just am not much of a fan of them

also at some parts the timing of the elements sound off (like at 1:44)

also as with that other song of yours i reviewed the mixing could be better. i definitely hear undesirable limiter distortion at 2:11 during that lowpass sweep, you could try automating the output volume of the filter during that part to fix it

but you do present great ideas here! the arps and tonality sound cool

Lumiflag responds:

Hey thanks for the review! I really admit that mixing is something that I definitely need to improve, that's a step I tend to skip because I'm usually to lazy or just can't figure out what to do.
The offbeat synth at 1:44 was actually something I wanted, since in the original song the bassline was doing its own thing (polyrhythm huh).

But I appreciate the constructive feedback ⭐

i came here from your thread asking for criticism

the mixing sounds alright, i do agree that the drums could be a bit louder, and maybe the whole mix could have a high shelf boost at about 2khz by maybe 3db at most? it does sound a bit too compressed as well, like the limiter is working too hard. also in some parts (like around 0:45) there seems to be a bit too much reverb on everything

though the key change at about 3:12 was really cool, and i like the general early 2010's party music feeling this has :)

"i am my dreams."
