yay!! cool melodies and fills!

OVERSCORE responds:

yeah cool song! ty!

do i hear microtonality in the pad at the beginning? that's fucking awesome if so

the break programming is great too, but maybe the breaks themselves could be made thicker through compression or light saturation

xanxoepico responds:

yeah now that you mention it I had to tune the sub bass like 40 cents up to match the pitch of the pad lol, as for the breaks, funnily enough the amen does have some distortion on it, but no compression at all since I didn't understand how that worked back when I made this track, I've only recently begun using them heh

short but sweet :) my only real criticism is maybe some of the instruments sound too synthetic and robotic (besides that lead and pad of course). also maybe it could be more energetic? great song otherwise!

xanxoepico responds:

maaaaan a friend told me just that about the instruments, I still struggle a bit with humanization in melodies and especially percussions since having everything on the grid is just very comfortable

cool drum patterns, and the arps and melodies are quite nice! the piano at the end is very pretty as well

i'd suggest adding some modulation to some of these sounds (especially that reese bass) to make everything more active. also, i think the drums could be more prominent in the mix, probably through lightly sidechaining everything else to them. also, maybe try adding some ear candy and quick chops in the mix to fill up the spectrum and make this more interesting

just my thoughts

GlaceonDash responds:

Honestly not a bad idea

fantastic! great use of my "chase" drum loop :)

the melodies, the chords, the key changes, the leads, everything about this is just perfect

OVERSCORE responds:

Thank you! Maybe I should start doing my own drums again though!

it really does feel like waking up and being ready to seize the day :) i really like that fast melody at 2:20, and the reese bass sounds awesome! did you make it yourself?

maybe a little more could have been done structurally (maybe added breaks in the drop, or a moment where everything gives way to an ambient pad or something), but the idea of it being continuous is cool too!

OVERSCORE responds:

The reese bass was one of the new basses that came with the latest SunVox update :( I’m not that good at sound design yet.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure about the structure of this song, which is why I tried to constantly add new melodies to the song to keep it fresh. Hope I achieved that?
Glad you think it’s cool!

actually cool flow, i like the chiptune-ish bass

DistortedVortex responds:

thanks

i really like it! this definitely has that 2000s ng audio portal feeling. the melodies and harmonies are really good and catchy. my only criticism is that the mixing is a bit flat, but i imagine if you sidechained everything to your drums and added some compression it should be better

aloelucidity responds:

thank u!! im still a bit rusty on mixing soo i appreciate the tips :)

i do feel like the basses (and generally all of the sounds) could have been glued together a bit more somehow, perhaps by removing the rests in between them or eqing them consistently? some of them sound a bit like presets. also, the snare is very distorted and has a lot of unnecessary low end. and maybe that 2-step drum pattern in the second drop was a little uncalled for? but this is still good :)

Casporb responds:

Agreed. Thank you.

...and what great samples they are! you really nailed that oldskool sound

Jeansowaty responds:

THANKS SO MUCH!! :D
